Before Mr. Justice Edwards and a jury, a middle-aged woman named Martha Jane Maxwell* (who on the previous day had been tried on a charge of having used an instrument on a young woman with an illegal object in view, and in whose case the jury failed to agree upon a verdict) was presented for re-trial. A verdict of not guilty was returned, and accused was discharged. A girl named . 'Katie Llewellyn was oharged with having •fraudulently, stated to the chief postmaster that she had posted a packet containing money, whereas she had not done s o. His Honor instructed the jury that there was no evidence against the accused, and they formally brought in an acquittal. .

In the case of R. B. Robertson v. Barraud and Abraham, claim for £5Ol damages for alleged negligent valuation. of an hotel property by an employee of defendant, tlie plaintiff was nonsuited, with costs, on the ground that there was no evidence to show that the employee was authorised by the defendants or that it was a valuation.
