The annual meeting of the Tologa Bay Jockey Club was commenced at Tolctga Bay yesterday. In the morning the sky was overcast, but the rain held off until about 4 p.m., when it began to ifall' somewhat heavily and continued until late last night. The attendance was hardly as large as was anticipated, but the racing was good, although the times recorded were rather slow. The. presence of the 'Hauiti Brass Band, which gave, a- number of selections, added to the interest of the proceedings, and the catering arrangements were admirably attended to by Mr. S. Wootton. During the day the sum of £2576 was put through the totalisator. as against £2044 for the first day of last year’s meeting. Eight bookmakers were licensed at a fee of £lO 10s each. The following are the results of the racing:—

Anchor Head took up the running along the back stretch from Manupai, Ramuira, and Ben Fadget. The Birkenhead gelding was never troubled, and won easily by a length. Two lengths separated second and third. Time, 52£sec. FLYING HANDICAP, of 50sovs; second horse osovs. Six furlongs. M. G. Nasmith’s b g Auldearn, by San Remo —Opaque, 9.7 (Porter) 1 A. Harris’ ,blk m Niwaru, by Tor,pedo—Lady Heart, 7.11 (E. Price) 2 H. Hendrickson’s b g Rarata, by Eton—Peace, 9.2 (R. E. Brown) 3 —Also started : Erin 8.6, Pluck 8.2. Auldearn was fractious at the post, and delayed the start, and when the field finally gob away Niwaru showed out in front. The black mare led from Auldearn until the straight was reached, where the latter drew level and ■eventually won a good race by three, parts of a length. A length separated second and third. This was a splendid race, the field running bunched until the home turn was reached, where Illustrious drew away and won comfortably by two lengths, with the others close up. Time, lmin 331 sec. Gam© 8.7, Ben Fidget 8.0, Waitiria 8.0. Waitiria got left at the post, but quickly caught her field. Prestonpans led for a furlong, where he gave place to Awanui. who led until well into the straight, where Prestonpans came again and won comfortably by two lengths. Waipare was three-quarters of a length away third. Time, lmin 50.1-ssec. •A protest was entered by the owner of TVai,pare against Awanui for boring, but was dismissed. From an even start Dardanus and Swartlimoor raced neck and neck just in front of the others, until reaching the straight. Here Dardanus forged ahead, and stalling off a challenge from Auldearn, won by a. neck. Rose Letlie finished fast. Time, lmin 45sec.
FIRST HACK HANDICAP, of 30sovs; distance, five furlongs. F. Jones’ b m Hirini, iby San Remo —Tauhei, 8.11 (Porter) 1 C. J. Parker’s b ; g Ardfert, by Seaton Delaval—Lady Augusta, 8.10 (Parramore) 2 F. Benson’s br g Illustrious, by Renown —Barbelle, 9.2 (Manning) 3 —Also started: Waimaori 7.12, Tlie Chef 7.12. The Chef led off from the start, and was closely followed bv the rest of the field. _ He 'maintained his position until well into the straight, where Hirini took charge, and won in a canter from the fast following Ardfert. Illustrious was three lengths away. Time, Imin 5 l-ssec.
AUTUMN HANDICAP, of SOsovs. Six

Spate ancF Durability ran neck and neck all the way to the straight, with Rose Lethe lying handy. The latter closed up, and the trio fought out the issue aH the way up the straight, Rose Lethe just getting the verdict by a short head. Spate was only half a head away. Time, lmin 21 sec.
