ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

[Per Press Association. 1 AUCKLAND, Feb. 26. A cablet message from the Imperial Export Company, of Canada, by its New Zealand manager, Mr. T. IT. Desdirvver, gives additional information in reference to the new steamship service with Canada referred to in the cables to-day. Mr. DeschryVer’s cable states that the Canadian Government has concluded) an agreement with the New Zealand Shipping Company, by wh'eh the Company will run steamers monthly between the East Coast of Canada and New Zealand. The steamers will k-rve Montreal in the summer ami St John's in the winter, and Mr. Beschryvor thinks, from previous information lie has received, that the subsidy will he 10,000 dollars (£2000) per steamer. The steamer will probably visit the four leading New Zeal rod ports yj’.d a number of Australian ports, going first to New Zealand on alternate trips. In speaking qf the new service, Mr. Deschryver said the probable exports of Canada to New Zealand would be hardware and wooden goods, agricultural machinery, implements. and tools. In return, Canada would take flax, wool, tallow, kauri gum, hides, and skins. If, continued Mr. Dtschrylver, passenger steamers were put on the tourist traffic would receive an appreciable fillip. Of the seven million people to be found in Canada five million could be said to live cm the East Coast. These people had no way of reaching New Zealand, but are going to Vancouver or London. If there is any direct passenger service lie had no doubt many would take the opportunity of visiting New Zealand who otherwise would not dream of it. Tin? local officVof the New Zealand ’Shipping Company has received no intimation of this agreement.
