NUMEROUS WITNESSES TO BE EXAMINED.

[Pun Press Association.! WANGANUI, Feb. 28. The Police Court was occupied all the morning hearing a charge of arson agaibst Joseph Davis and Martin Haines in connection with the Ilutlanu Hotel fire on January 22nd. Most of the evidence that morning was given by the insurance .agents regarding the value of the stock which accused valued at £2400, and which were insured for £IOOO. Only seven out ox twentyfour witnesses were examined. Later. —John Paul Davis and Martin Hains, charged with setting fire to a shop in the Rutland buildings on January 22nd, were to-day committed for trial at the Supreme Court. Bail, which was not forthcoming, was fixed at £SOO for each accused, and two sureties of £l5O each.
