APPLICATIONS FOR CLYDEBANK ESTATE. TPer Press Association.! WAIROA, March 3. For 1 the Clydebank estate there are 452 applications from 116 persons. 1C wry section has been applied for. The highest number for one section was 39, and tlie- lowest four. An examination; of applicants was made this morning. The ballot takes place to-morrow.
DAIRYING MATTERS. PALMERSTON N., March 3. A conference of dairy factory I roprietors of the Wellington district was held to-day. Thirty factories 1 ere represented. Mr McFarlane, : r-. sklent of the Dairy Association, presided". The meeting was called to consider'•ihef oemands of factory employees for a new award to succeed the present one, which runs out on March 31st. The employees have formulated demands which have been published, but which have not been brought officially before the employers or the Court. After considering the position it was decided to set up a committee of seven with power to act to meet- whatever situation may arise. The present award, which ’vas only for nine months, will continue in force till another is substituted. The committee of the National Dairy Show lias decided to hold a combined demonstration of milking machines at the winter show in June next. The North Island Poultry Association has forwarded a permit for the poultry sections of the same show.
CADET CAMP COMPLAINTS. ELTHAM, March 3. Officers and members of the Elt/ham Cadets express the highest satisfaction, with the arrangements at the recent camp, and have no complaints to make regarding the management. Tlie opinion is expressed locally that if any cadets were not treated properly it was due to Departmental inefficiency or mismanagement.
ARSON AT WAIHI. HAMILTON, March 3. At the Supreme Court George Maliinsen, on a charge of arson and theft at Waiihi, received a- sentence of three years’ hard labor; Naomi Adele Dey Peacock, a married woman, also of Wailii, charged with arson, was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
THE HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN. DUNEDIN, March 3. The Society for the Promotion of the Health of Women and Children concluded its conference to-day. The following resolutions were passed: That something practical in the direction of a more general extension of the benefits of systematic care of infants inaugurated by the Society be attempted by offering to help and' co-operate, with the general hospital authorities in regard to the care of babies inside and outside such institutions; that the Government be approached with a view to rendering illegal the sale of patentfoods sold as babies’ food which have not the percentage of sugar fat and protoid {or flesh forming material) marked on the outside; that those persons who are responsible for the placing and upbringing of children boarded out by the State be interested as much as is possible in the methods advocated by this Society; that persons having care* of boarded-mit infants and young children in their 'homes be instructed as to the proper feeding of same. A letter was received from Mrs Blair (President of the Y.W.C.A.) asking the co-operation of the Society with a view to bringing into force a recent Act of Parliament whereby women may be elected on Charitable Aid and school boards. Tlie conference declared themselves as being quite in sympathy with the suggestions.
