Prior to the commencement of the special meeting of the Cook County Council yesterday the councillors assembled and resolved unanimously that a letter of condolence be sent to the chairman (Hon. Capt. Tucker), express, mg to him the council’s sympathy in his recent sad bereavement. The motion was passed in silence, the councillors remaining standing. A Press telegram from Dannevirko states that Air. A. C. Alunro, of Haturaa, was yesterday nominated for the vacancy on the Land Board. Air. Alunro was' late chairman of the A\ T eber County Council, and is now a member of tV AVaipukurau County Council and the Napier Harbor Board. Sergeant Cruickshank, who has been transferred te Napier, was farewelled hv Bench and Bar yesterday (says a Press telegram from Dannevirke), and Mrs Cruic'kshank received a presentation oGa silver tea service. Sergeant Cruickshank was farewelled by the Alayor and [Councillors in the afternoon, an-1 last night was to be farewelled by the citizens, when Airs. Cruickshank wa<- to receive a purse of sovereigns. Air AYm. Pettie, who is at present- in the AVaikato district in company with the Hon. Jas. Carroll, will next visit Rotorua and return to Gisborne on Saturday next. Air AYm. Miller arrived back in Christchurch yesterday after a visit to Mount Cook Hermitage, where lie was detained for a few days by bad weather. He returns to Gisborne on Wednesday morning. Airs Carmichael, who won the ladies croquet championship at Rotorua last season, leaves for Auckland this mornin<r. (Silo will represent the AAT.ataupoko Club at the championship tournament to he held in the northern city next week. Dr C. F. Schumacher lias disposed ol his practice to l)r Porter, a recent arrival from Scotland. Dr and Aliss Schumacher will leave Gisborne shortly for London on route for Canada, where they intend to reside. Air F. W. Aiarchant, C.E., arrives in Gisborne this morning to undertake in conjunction with Air A. J. Paterson, Borough Engineer, an inspection of the water supply pipe line, on behalf of the Borough Council.
