Miss Amy Castles having come to an arrangement with Messrs J. and N. la it whereby she will temporarily discontinue her tour under tlieir direction, .will shortly rehearse for her appearances in grand opera under the management of Mr J. C. "Williamson. As has already been reported, Miss •Castles is to assume the chief soprano parts in Puccini’s “La Bolienie’' and “Madame Butterfly” alternately with another singer now -being engaged; and, as this is her first essay in grand opera, in. this part of the world, her appearance is -being awaited with exceptional interest. There is little doubt, however, that she will bo a distinguished success, for she has been fitting herself during tbe whole of her career for the greater demands of operatic work. During her long period of training under the”careful guidance of the eminent M. Bouliy she laid a foundation by acquiring a repertoire of 18 operas, and has subsequently seized every opportunity to develop her talent and add to her knowledge. Furthermore, she has become an excellent actress, -chiefly due to the efforts of M. Y'a-ldajo, a retired French actor of considerable fame.
