GISBORNE. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES’ CONFERENCE.
NOMINEES FOR HOSPITAL BOARD
The usual monthly mooting of the above was hold last night. There was a full attendance, all local lodges being represented. Bro. C. F. Lewis, president, presided. At the request of the president,' the Rev. Bro. Lamb and. Bro. Robert Johnston, two of the candidates selected by the conference to stand for the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board election on tlie 16th inst., attended.
A strong executive, committee was formed, with power to add to their number, to further the candidature of the conference’s nominees, via., Bro. C. F. Lewis, Rev-. Bro. Lamb, and- Bro. Robert Johnston. It was decided that the- conference would not ally . itself with any of the candidates other than those selected by the lodges, its intention being to remain neutral as regards other candidates. It was decided to hold a mass meeting of Friendly Societies’ members in Townley’s Hall on Wednesday evening next, at 8 o’clock, and also to secure a. committee room until after the day of the poll, where members of the various lodges and their friends can meet from time to time. The canvassing committee will be an exceptionally strong one.
The largest amount ever passed at any meeting of the conference was passed for payment, and several routine matters of interest to affiliated lodges were considered and dealt with.
