Hector McLean, second engineer on the steamer Strat'hness, has been committed for trial for manslaughter of a Chinese fireman on February 18th. The witnesses, principally Chinese, stated that deceased was thrashed and kicked on several occasions, and died on the day following the last hammering. There were between twenty and thirty bruises on the body, which was thrown into the sea.
