BATHE PICTURES. To-night, at liis Majesty’s Theatre, the Batlic Pictures wiii exuibit an entirely new programme. As this is another “booin’' series and can be shown for one night only (on account of the Theatre being otherwise engaged for the rest of tile week), a bumper house .is anticipated, foremost among the dramatic subjects is an American B;o----grapli Com pain s film entitled “The Convict’s Sacrifice,” a remarkable story of the gratitude of a convict, graphically depicting how a man endeavo,., time and again to retrieve his position on release from prison. The above talented troupe of Americans, already famous, are responsible for another magnificent picture creation, viz., “The Renunciation,” a- beautiful series of considerable length, the subject containing many delicate touches. A picture showing “The Birth and Adventures of a Fountain Pen” should prove an interesting industrial series, depicting as it does the various stages in manufacturing fountain 'pens, from the crude rubber biscuits to the finished article ready for use. Other star items include, “The Gambling Fever,” “The Fair Dolores.” “In the Land of the Gita nos,” and “Through the Netherlands.” the comics being “The Escaped Lunatic,” “The Day of a Gentleman,’’ “His Wife’s Wine” and “Sweet and Twenty”. This series will he shown to-night only. SHACKLETON’S DASH FOR. THE SOUTH POLE. Sir Ernest Shackleton and his comrades have done something, .heroic. They have unfurled the British flag within .100-miles of the South Pole. Mr C. Spencer, of the Lyceum Theatre. Svdncy, lias the privilege of presenting the great story in cinematograph form to Now Zealand by pictures actually taken in those icy and desolate regions, to bring home to the world at large the realities of adventure, privations, peril and achievement in a manner only 'possible with the cinematograph. Gisborne residents will have an opportunity +n witness these pictures to-mor-row (Thursday) night at His Majesty's Theatre. Besides this interesting and educational subject another “icy and
snowy” picture will b 4> shown- namely a'Winter carnival at Mount Kosciusko in Australia. The tourists are shown departing in coaches and motor cars, and during the trip up the mountain some beuutilul scenery is witnessed. There are many other pictures in the programme quite a s interesting. Scenic subjects are the principal feature, but dramatic subjects are not forgotten, and many humorous films will he shown. The l>ox plan is now open at Miller’s Corner, v. here seats can be reserved. ANDREW BLACK CONCERTS. Advice was received yesterday-.that the boat bv which the Andrew Black Concert Company are visiting Gisborne will.be a day late in arriving here, so the date of his concerts have necessarily been altered to Monday and Tuesday next, March 14th and 15th. Gisborne residents cannot do better than make a note of those evenings, when the above high-class company will appear in Ilis Majesty’s Theatre. Mr Black, during his professional career has toured the world, in England, Ireland, and Scotland Ids successes were so great that lie earned the proud title of Britain’s Baritone, ft is now two years since he ha;, been in Gisborne, and the memory of his singing should generate a desire to hear him again. The other members of the company will include Miss Iley Cross, whose personal appearance, -ike her rich melodious voice, pi eases the most critical. Herr Anton Tsehaikov. the new Russian violinist, who has been specially engaged for the Now Zealand concerts; and Miss Lilian Delaney, one of Sydney’s favorite p:anistes. The box plans for both concerts are now on view at Miller’s Cornel, where seats may be reserved.
