FEILDING CYCLING FATALITY
[Pkh Pukhs Association.) • ' FEILDING, March 8. At an inquest concerning the Cfeath of the late W. A. Sandilands to-day, the evidence showed that the collision was caused by deceased and the other cyclist riding without lights. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death and added a rider that the by-law regarding riding without lights should be strictly enforced.
A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE. PALMERSTON N., March 8. A sensational train accident happened shortly-before, one o’clock to-day, when the down Main Trunk express, coining into the Square at high speed, crashed into an express cart. The driver had a miraculous escape. He declares that the engine never whistled til! close.to him, and he had no idea of it*: presence till he was in the centre of the rails and saw the on rushing train. He jumped, and thus saved his life, for the next instant the engine struck the vehicle and carried it along on a. cowcatcher into the Square for nearly a hundred vards. The suddenness of the impact broke the express clean away from the horse, which escaped, like its driver, without a scratch. The train was travelling at a dangerous rate.
