THE HYDE-SWOPE CASE.
HYDE INDICTED FOR MURDER
United Press Association —Copyright (Received March 8, 10.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 8. Dr. Hyde has been indicted on a charge of murdering eight members of the Swope, family as well as Colonel Swope. Colonel Thomas Swope, a .millionaire philanthropist, of Kansas City, recently died suddenly. Subsequently, owing to certain rumors. Dr Bennett Clark® Hyde sued the executor at Independence, Missouri, for slanderously accusing him of poisoning Colonel Swope, and also the latter’s nephew, who likewise died suddenly. The casp took a sensational turn when it- was'announced that a chemical analysis shews that Colonel Swope died from strychnine poisoning. Tri filing the case. Dr Hyde further stated that the defendant had accused him of inoculating members of the Swope family with the germs oh typhoid, which several contracted. Dr Hyde, who is married to the colonel’s niece, amended this so as to read: “The Colonel and other members of the family.”
