A STRANGE DISAPPEARANCE

TPep. Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, March 9. A middle-aged man, John "Whelan, who was grass-seeding on the Peninsula, disappeared in January, and has not since been seen. Lately a coat and waistcoat belonging to him were found on the banks of a creek in O’Kain’s Bay. Police investigations have revealed the fact that Whelan’s behavior was so peculiar that he had be to restrained. He left the camp, saying that he intended to return to Lvtteiton, but later the same day he turned up at another camp, apparently in a state of extreme exhaustion. When last seen he was staggering along the top of high cliffs above the sea, and the belief i.s entertained that Whelan fell into the sea, rle is said to have relatives in Tasmania.
