ROWING.

POVERTY BAY CLUB. Two more single sculling races in connection with the above club for Mr R. T. Seymour’s gold medal were rowed off last evening. G. Sceats (12 secs.) defeated F. Porter (6secs.) by about two lengths, after a good race. The other race was between -J. Martin (lOsecs.) and P. Stubbs (lOsecs.), and resulted in an easy win for t-lie former by about three lengths. Only one race will take place this evening, the second in the semi-final, the contestants being J. Webo (lscc.) and J. Martin (lOsecs.). A good race is anticipated. The final will take place to-morrow evening. GISBORNE CLUB. The conditions were ideal for the continuation of the four-oar competition for the President's trophies on the Waimata course last evening. Four heats wore rowed off, Mr. C. J. Hamilton acting as starter and Mr .G. H. Puflett as judge. The first race started about 5.20, and the last finished about 6.30, when it was almost too dark to distinguish the crews. The first race was between Butler, Perry, Riddell, and Bousfield, and Payne, Wheeler, Quigley and O’Meara. This was a ding-dong “go” from start to finish. Payne eventually winning an exciting race by a quarter of a length. The next crews to go to the post wero McLean, Curtis, Miller, and deLautour, and Cumming, Dods, Mulvihill, and Murray. Curtis’ crew, pulling nicely together, soon established a lead, and were never pushed. They passed the winning post easy winners by fully three- lengths. The third race was fought out by Gullv. C. Morse, Hudson, and Fromm, and 'Traill, Scott, Dalgety, and Wyllie. Gully, rowing a long stroke, drew away from his opponents, and had matters all his own.way, winning comfortably hv a couple" of lengths. "The last race, which was rowed in semi-darkness, saw Williams, Clarkson, Faram, and Lovett, and H. M. Puflett, Gallop, Fraser, and Muir take the river. ’This pTovided a capital race. Puflett had. a lead of a few feet on shooting the bridge, but Williams herecalled on his crew, and there was great excitement as a keen finish was fought out. Pufiett’s crew in the last fifty yards drew away, and passed the post a length te the good. . The semi-finals will be rowed on Friday evening and the final on Saturday nt 5 p.m.
