Mr. Henniker Heaton, in a letter to his constituents suggesting that the elections will be held in June, announces his intention to retire at the end of the present Parliament from health considerations.

TO REFORM THE HOUSE OF LORDS.

In the House of Lords, Lord Rosebery gave notice of the following resolutions:—First, that a strong and eiiicient s&cond Chamber as an integral part of the constitution is necessary for the well-being of the State and the balance of Parliament; second/that such Chamber can best be obtained by the reform and reconstruction of the House of Lords; third, that a necessary preliminary to such reconstruction is the acceptance of the principle that possession of a peerage no longer of itself gives the right to sit and vote.

IRELAND’S FINANCIAL POSITION

In the House of Commons, replying to Mr. Hazleton, Mr. Lloyd-George stated that Ireland’s share of new taxation under the Budget would be £3,438,000, while her benefit from old ago pensions was £2,460,000.
