SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION NOTIFIED. [Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, March 11. A cable message lias been received by Mr. C. AV. Jones, manager of the local office of the Hud dart, Parker Company Proprietary, Ltd., intimating that on and after yesterday the increase of 25 per cent., which was placed on the freight rates to and from Australia consequent upon the Newcastle strike, will Ire reduced to 10 per cent. This hag been decided upon in view of the partial resumption of work at certain of the New South AA 7 ales mines, and the reduction will apply to Australian coastal rates as well. Yesterday afternoon the local office of the Union Steam Ship Company received a. telegraphic message from headquarters to the same effect. The message added that the passenger fares remain unaltered.
