CRICKET.
SATURDAY COMPETITION. ,
The Saturday competition was brought to 'a conclusion last Saturday afternoon, when Wanderers defeated Y.M.C.A. at Victoria Domain and Taruheru secured a five wickets win over United;, at Taruheru. The weather was perfect, and the games interesting.
SENIOR COMPETITION.
UNITED v. TARUHERU
Taruheru resumed batting with four wickets down for 89. Lasker, one of the not out men, was absent, so Gough accompanied 1 Whiteley to the wickets. After adding six to his not out score of 34, Whiteley was howled by Gibson. With the exception of Minnis, none of the others did much, and the innings closed for 118, or eight ahead of United’s first innings total. United, in endeavoring to force the pace, lost their wickets rapidly in their second innings, and were all out for 73. Taruheru secured the 66 required to nun for the loss of five’ wickets. Golding played an aggressive innings for 34, which included a five and three fours. The following are the scores: — TARUHERU. —’Ist Innings.
Y.M.C.A. v. WANDERERS. This match was resumed on the Domain on Saturday afternoon. Wanderers had 5 wickets down for 54, and wanted 40 runs to reach Y.M.C.A.’s score. Moore joined McMahon, hut did not last "long, being bowled by Jones for 7. Others followed quickly, Jones taking all the wickets. _ The finish was very exciting. Nine wickets were down and a few runs were still required. McColl was last man in and kept his wicket up well. McMahon made the winning hit for four, off Pine, and in the next over was given out l.b.w. to Jones. For Y.M.C.A. Jones did remarkably well with the ball, taking 7 wickets for 20 runs. Wanderers were given the hardest fight they have had this season,, and' although they had an easy win, by dismissing Y.M.C.A. for 16 in their second innings, this might not have happened had Y.M.C.A. led) on the first innings. As it was three of their wickets fell before they scored the necessary 13 runs". They thus secured victory by 7 wickets. The scores were: WANDERERS.—Ist Innings.
JUNIOR COMPETITION. Y.M.C.A. v. ALHAMBRA. The game .was played on the chip wicket and resulted in a. win l for Y.M.C.A. in the first innings. They
went in first and! made 104 (Winter 34, Pollock 24, Muir 10) against the’ bowling of Watson (five for 39), Atkinson Hour /for 28), Sim (0 for 15) and West (one for 11). Alhambra, with three men short, made 64 (Stuckey 7, Sim 11, Mcßae 24), against the bowling of Pollock (two for 10), Edwards (one for I. Winter (one for IS) and Muir (two for S). ' THE TOKOMARU TEAM. The following team will represent Tokomaru against Gisborne, at Tokomaru, on March 17: —iL. E. Cotter®, JYDrabible, E. C. Connelly, iH. H. Fail-lie, L. Read, G. Oates, R. Reed, W. J. Leversedge, J. Oates, W. Oates Junr., and Erekana. Emergencies: G. Kelley. Tins East Coast team to play Gisborne, at Tokomaru, on March 18 and 19 is as follows: —W. Oakden, E. <J. Nurse, C. Caddy (Tuparoa), F. Wilder (Woipiro), Nelson (Tologa Bay), L. E. Cotterill, H. Fairlie, L. Reed, G. Oates, J. Oates, W. Oates junr. (Tokomara). Emergencies will be cliosen after the match on Thursday from the following: E. C. Connelly, W. J. Lcversedge, J. Drabble. Three buggies will , meet the Gisborne team on arrival and convey tg the hotel.

THE FIRST TEST MATCH
rPun Pituss Association. | CHRISTCHURCH, March 12. The test match was continued .to-day in ideal weather. The wicket had completely dried. The not outs, Armstrong (63) and Warne (2) resumed, to the bowling of Oliiff amcl Had'don. After a string of singles Armstrong got O'lilliff for two pairs, but the same over was howled. Kelleway followed and should have .been ran out, but Lusk returned to the wrong end. With ,the score at 250 Reese replaced Howden. Soon after Bennett got a- beauty past Warne, 2616 —21. Hopkins was the next to bat, but did not stay Icing, Bennett scattering liis wickets 268—7—6. At 282 Emery chopped Bennett on to his wicket, 282—S—6, Whitty replacing him. The score was unaltered when Reese bowled Kelleway, awid-Gorry, the last man, went in. Whitty twice got Reese to the leg boundary, and 300 went up for under four and a half hours’ play. Whitty made a mishit which soared high to Howden at third man, and the innings closed. Lusk and Siedeberg opened New Zealand’s second innings and it was not long before both reached cjouble figures. At 43 Hopkins took the ball from Armstrong. Lusk drove one bard above Emery’s head, which the bowler sprang to and caught (66 —1—39). Midlane followed and both be and Haddon batted splendidly. Haddon was caught with the soore at 79. Reese joined Midlane, and when there w-ere only two minutes to go. a misunderstanding between the 'batsmen saw Reese run out. The gate money amounted to £l9B. THE WANGANUI MATCH. WANGANUI, March 13. The following is the Wanganui team to play against the Australians: Butter worth (capt.), L. P. Cave, H. B. Cave, Addison, Howard, Holland, Atkinson, Andrew,. Burrell, Henderson and Parker. AUCKLAND MATCHES. AUCKLAND. March 13. The Auckland Cricket Association district Championship matches were played in perfect weather yesterday afternoon. In the senior grade wins were recorded by North Shore, Parnell and Ponsonby. The results were: North Shore v. University.—The latter made 137 and 114 for 4 wickets (declared), (Jacobsen 53, not out), North Shore 170 and. 63 for three wickets (Ralfc 32, not out). North Shore won by 33 runs on the first innings. Grafton v. Parnell.—Grafton, first innings, 157, second 62 for 3 wickets (declared) (Mason 43), Parnell 111 and 120 for 4 wickets (Sale 49, Anthony 51, not out). Parnell won by 6 wickets and secured a thi-oe point win. Eden v. Ponsonby.—Eden 241, Ponsonby 291 for seven wickets (Hemus 83, W. Robinson 80, Gavin 49. Woods 35). Ponsonby secured a 2 point win. DUNEDIN MATCHES. DUNEDIN, March 13. The cricket matches on Saturday resulted as under: —-Dunedin in the first innings compiled 292. Grange made 91 in the first innings .and 288 in the second. Carisbrook A. made 91 in the first innings against 84 .made by Carisbrook B. MaOart'ney took 4 wickets for 31. In Albion v.
