Bates’ summary and 'forecast —the hurometer has fallen leanest mi ’the neighborhood of Cook Strait during the past 24 hours, and (heavy rain has been experienced in many parts southward of New, Plymouth and Napier. Northerly winds, /moderate, to strong, have |i • availed northward of Kawhia- and Napier, and westerlies, strong to gale, elsewhere. Present indications are for a. westerly gate northward of Ka-whia a .d Napier, and southerly, veering to north-easterly, elsewhere. Heavy ram j :i probable generally, and 1 especially on th* West Coast of the North Island, aad East Coast of the South, 'with rivers flooded. The barometer will be rising fast soon.
