GISBORNE CLUB

A special general meeting of members of the Gisborne Rowing Club was held in the Cosmopolitan Club _ last evening. Mr W. Johnston presided, and about 40 members were present. The business was th.e alteration 'J tlie rules and by-laws. A copy of the proposed amendments had l (been previously forwarded to each member, and last evening all the proposed new rules were carried and all tliio proposed 1 ylaws, Avitli the exception of No ; 33, which was altered to read, ‘‘Single sculls must he carried out of and into the boat-house, fiy two members, but in the event of one member' not being able to get assistance, be could l take the sculls out by himself.” A good deal of discussion took place over some of the alterations, but tlie majority favored them. There will be a meeting of the Licensed Victuallers’ Shield Committee in. Mr- J. Dodd’s office at 8 p.m. on Thursday evening, when all matters in connection with the race will be considered. There will be four clubs 1 entering, the two local clubs sfnd the Udwa- and Tologa, Bay clubs, and the race will probably take place shortly after Easter. ARNST V. WHELCH. Both Arnst and Whelch have now settled down to steady work at Aka.roa, (says the ‘Lyttelton Times” of Wednesday last). They are generally out twice a day and are taking long walks over the hills. Webb is expected to arrive on March 19. On Monday Mr M. G. Daly paid the second deposit on behalf of Whelch, and the final .payment will be made in a fortnight.
