ST. PATRICK’S SPORTS.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of tbe general committee of St. Patrick’s sports was held last night in St. Mary’s schoolroom to make final arrangements in connection with the gathering. Tli© Rev. Father Lane presided, and there was a large attend, ance. The secretary reported that- the various arrangements were progressing satisfactorily, and that a successful gathering was anticipated. A halfholiday would be given to the children of the Gisborne public school on Thurs_ day, the day of the sports. it was decided 1 to request the authorities of the Haiti, Mangapapa, and Matnwbero schools tb also grant a halfholiday on the occasion. The. committee decided to draw up an attractive special programme of sports for children, for whom a large quantity of toys and other prizes will be provided. This programme is to be under the supervision of Mr. J. Haughe’y. It- was decided that children under 12 should be admitted to the ground free, and that children between 12 and 16 should be charged 6d. Family tickets will be issued at 2s 6d each, admitting parents and children under 16. It was decided that the bicycle events Nos. 5 and 11 should be run on/Victoria Domain, where a special track is to be prepared under the supervision of the secretary. Mr. M. Segedin. In each of these events there will be. no race unless there are eight nominations. The handicaps will be published in Thursday morning’s “Times,” and nominations will close at the. Victoria Billiard Saloon only, at 9 p.m. to-morrow (Wednesday). Nominations for the Bicycle Consolation; Race, No. 14, will be received on the ground. The nominations for the rip-sawing competition will be taken by the secretary and by Mr. T. Haisman, either before the sports or on the ground. Arrangements have been made for the train which usually loaves Gisborne at 3.45 p.m. to be delayed till. 5 p.m., and 1 to stop at Stanley Road crossing for tlie convenience of country visitors.
