A meeting at Broken Hill Town Hall, called by a Socialist group to protest against fostering the military spirit, led to a strong counter-demonstration, .ending in a free fight and intericrencc hy the police. The voices of the speakers were drowned; hy the singing of patriotic songs. The furniture and fittings of the hall suffered considerably during the rough and tumble. When order was restored the counter-demon-stration carried 1 a resolution favoring the defence movement for citizen soldiery.
