MATAWiHERO STOCK SALES
The weekly sale of stock took place at Afatawhero yesterday before a fair attendance. Buyers were scarce and a most dragging sale resulted. Most of the pens were, .however, sold, many of them by private treaty.
SHEEP. About 23,000 sheep were yarded, mostly aged ewes,, although there were some good quality 2-tooth and 4-tooth ewes. . A particularly nice line of 1100 wethers was disposed of privately for 10s 6d apiece.. Prices ranged from Is 6d for culls to 10s Sd for 2' and 4tooth ewes, and wethers sold at 10s 6d, 10s 4d, 9s 7d down to 8s 9d. Woolly lambs brought up to 6s 6d for a wellgrown lot. Potters were in .evidence, and brought potter prices, but a line of sound mouth ewes was disposed of at 2s 7d, little better than potter price. The sale dragged considerably owing to the bidders being slow at giving a start, and this, coupled with the big yarding, gave the auctioneers a hard day. Most of the yarding, however, was disposed of. Fat sheep did not bring big prices, Out were mostly disposed of. Sales were :
