HAWKE'S BAY TAII.ORESSES AWARD.
[Per Press Association.! NAPIER, March 18. A meeting of tlie Industrial Conciliation Council was held to-day to consider a proposal made by the master tailors that, in view of ' local conditions, a special Tailoresses’ Award should be made for the Hawke's joay district. The proposal was opposed by the employees and the Council adjourn, ed to enable the Arbitration Court to be consulted. TRESPASSING AT TRENTHAM. WELLINGTON, March IS. Charges against two officials of the Pony Galloway Racing Club, of trespassing on Trentliam racecourse, were dismissed by the magistrate. THE STATE COAL MINE. Mr. James Bishop has been appointed manager of the Point Elizabeth No. 2 State coal mine at Coal Creek as from March Ist. LEGISLATIVE COUNCILLORS REAPPOINTED. The term of appointment of the following members of the Lgislative Coun. cil expired to-day: Hon. A. Bakiev (Otago), Hon. W. C. F. Carneross Taranaki), Hon. T. Thompson (Auckland), and Hon. F. Trask (Nelson). His Excellency the Governor has approved of their re-appointment for a further term of seven years.
SMALL VOTE AT CHRISTCHURCH
CHRISTCHURCH, March IS. The number of persons who recorded their votes at the election of representatives of the city on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was 1953. The gross total on the rolls is 18,021, but when there is deducted the names which have been struck off, it is probable that the net total of votes that could have been cast would bo about 17,000 odd. THE INCOME TAX CASES. CHRISTCHURCH, March IS. In connection with the application for a writ of prohibition restraining Air. H. W. Bishop, S.M., from adjudicating upon any or all of the informations laid by Air. M. Tvers, inspecting accountant of the Income Tax Department, against Bowron Bros., of Christchurch, it is understood that by consent of the parties the application will be moved into the Court of Appeal, which opens its sittings at Wellington on April 4. GREATER DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN March IS. A poll of ratepayers in North-East Valley was taken to-day on a proposal that 'the borough should amalgamate with the citv of Dunedin. Only a moderate amount of interest was taken in the matter, and out of 2621 ratepayers on the roll no more than 985 recorded their votes. The proposal was carried by CS7 votes to 284. This as the third suburb to join the city, Cnvcrshnm and South Dunedin having amalgamated some, years ago.
