WARRING TO TRADESPEOPLE
SPURIOUS HALF-SOVEREIGNS.
rpnn Press Association. J LEVIN, March 19. Spurious half-sovereigns are eirculatine in Levin and the surrounding districts. Tlie exterior of the counterfeits stands the jewellers’ acid test, being rolled gold quality, but their leaden sound on being struck on wood denotes that the coins are hot genuine, otherwise the imitation is almost perfect. A slight variation in the edge-milling is their only distinction from tlie genuine article. 'Local opinion is that, though no reports have been received from other centres so far, the distribution of the coins is likely to be widespread.
