RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE MCCREDIE CUP. ' A shooting competition took place on Saturday afternoon at the Rangatira range, Te Karaka, for the cup presented by Jas. McCredie, Esq., to the East Coast Mounted Rifles Corps. The competition was between the Te Karaka troop (holders) and the Makauri troop (challengers). The conditions were: seven men aside, and they shot at ranges of 200, 500 and 600 yards. The challengers, who were under the command of Lieut. Witters, proved successful, their individual scores being as follows:
The Te Karaka troop was under the command of Lieut. Poynter, the scores being as under:
The conditions of the competition are that the winners of the cup retain it for three months, and already they have received a challenge from the Gisborne troop to defend their title at the expiry of that time. Amongst those present on Saturday were Capt. Hellier Evans, Lieut. Hamilton and Sergeant Major Spragg. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the Te Karaka. troop.
