DIVORCE GRANTED. ITeii Press Association. 1 WANGANUI, March 21. At the Supreme Court, a decree nisi, to be made absolute in three months, was granted in Eadie v. Eadie, wife’s petition, on the grounds of drunkenness and failure to maintain bis wife and family. EARTHQUAKE SHOCK AT WANGANUI. A. sharp shock of earthquake was experienced at two minutes past six o’clock this evening. THE PIAKO LAND. THAMES, March 21. Further efforts are to be made to secure a. portion of the Pialco land for a miners’ settlement. A JUDICIAL DEADLOCK. ELTHAM. March 21. Mr H. Eyre Kenny, who was temporarily appointed in place of Air Kendrick, S.M.. who is absent on sick leave, is confined to liis house with illness. This necessitates a further adjournment of the Court. Air Kenny will not act any longer than the end of the month. There is no intimation locally as to when Air Kendrick returns. In the meanwhile Alagisterial business in this district is at a standstill. NELSON BAND’S WELCOAIE HOAIE. NELSON, Alarch 21. A public welcome was tendered to Ole Garrison Band to-night on its return from the AVanganui contest. There was a crowded gathering at the City Council Chambers, where speeches were delivered by prominent citizens, who euologised the Band’s performance at the contest and also the successes of the solo instrumentalists.
SUPREME COURT AT WESTPORT. WESTPORT, March 21. Mr Justice Chapman concluded the Westport sitting of the Supreme Court to-night. Abraham Price, charged with indecent assault, was found not guilty. No Bill was brought in in the charge of alleged fraud against Brcsnahan. Judgment was reserved in the case of Wesley v. Sibreo and others, trustees of the Millcrton Colliery Medical and Accident Relief Association, a motion for mandamus to have some statements of claim submitted to arbitration. PASSENGER AND FREIGHT RATES DUNEDIN, March 21.* Surcharges on intercolonial and island passenger and freight rates, occasioned by the Newcastle strike, ceased as from to-day. YOUTHFUL HOUSEBREAKERS. Reginald Lawson, aged 21. and Anthony Reuben Anderson, aged 16, pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to several charges of housebreaking and theft, between November and March. Over £3lO 4s worth of goods, mostly jewellery, was taken, and property of the value 0 f £2OO 4s was recovered. Some of the property had been pawned. Both lads Were committed for sentence. TYPOGRAPHICAL ASSOCIATION. At a. meeting of the Otago Typograpliical Union, the following members were elected to discharge the executive duties of the New Zealand Federated Typographical Association for the year commencing in April: Messrs John Harris (president), R. Ferguson (vicepresident), A. Walker (secretary and treasurer), Alex. Wilson) E. G. Brown, P. W. Campbell, and Wm. Andrews.
