WET AND COLD GENERALLY.
The weather which broke up on. Monday afternoon partly cleared up yesterday, but rain came oil again in the afternoon, and continued steadily during the eA r ening. As the back country was in need of rain, it will take a hea\*y rainfall to cause any rise in the rivers. COLD AND RAIN AT AUCKLAND. [Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, March 23. A cold snap was experienced here today, Avhen the Avind was from the southeast quarter. Rain also fell, and the day and night were both quite wintry, necessitating the lighting of fires. During the past week the temperature has dropped about 10 degrees. SNOW IN BLENHEIM DISTRICT. BLENHEIM, March 22. Yesterday afternoon a south-east rain fell, and to-day the back ranges are covered with a liberal coat of snow. The Aveather is nOAV fine, but wintry. FROST AT ASHBURTON.' ASHBURTON. March 22. - Fi\*e degrees of frost were registered here last night. This is unprecedented for this time of the year.
