ENTERTAINMENTS.

PATHE PICTURES

The Good Friday exhibition of pictures shown last night in His Majesty’s Theatre was a good one. AH the pictures were greatly admired and appreciated. the Biblical subjects being especially fine. Tc-night the. company give a new programme, described as a mammoth holiday series. wh:ch will be shown for three nights only. The strong point of the new series is* the dramas the -‘star’’ being *‘Across the Divide,” a magnificent ovation from the same studios as the famous "Cowboy Millionaire” film. Other good drama s are “The Opium Smugglers,” “An Adventure- of Cyrano Do Bergerac,' ana ••The Quarry man’s Daughter,” the latter being a quaint and original love episode based on fact. Scenic, topical, and educational subjects are included, and the humorous element is extremely prominent the. best- being “The Two Mr. Whites”—John, a lawyer, and Jonathan, a temperance advocate —“Cali no at the Seaside,” “The Motor Cyclist’s Misadventures,” and the popular “Foolshead and his Christmas Tree.’ MUSICAL ALL BLACKS. The above company, who open at His Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday next for a season of two nights, give an entertainment- somewhat- similar to the West and Brescia ns, who did excellent business through Now Zealand some few years ago. The Sydney “Bulletin speaks of the company as follows: — "The ‘All Blacks’ advertise themselves as ‘versatile,’ and they are. Pa and Ma and Miss Nelly—who stars with little sister Elsie (a pretty flaut-iste) —and brother Bert all flock on to a cosy room, like platform, where they wade through a maze of violins, ’cellos and brasses, and find themseleys places to sit on among the -coloured ribbons of mandolines and guitars. Then they play just whatever they can lay tlieir hands on. Occasionally, when the melody gives one time to gasp, one or other of the party snatches np a new instrument and drops tue other—they don’t seem to mind wliat they drop or walit they snatch —and the orchestra goes on in its tinkling way. The whole tiling has a home-like feeling ‘as if one were out- to tea.’ Ma is faithful to the piano, and sits in a prim little way. steadily placing an overture or accompanying a song, mandoline solo or flute solo.'-The company "hvcs'-Up to its advertisement in every way. ‘Miss Nellie’ (in big letters'* is advertised for tricks on the violin, and her tricks are real gymnastics.” Assisting the Black Family now are four other artists, and some very fine art pictures are suown. Popular prices are to bp, charged, viz., 3s. 2, Is, and seats may be reserved at Miller’s without extra charge.
