TURANGANUI CLUB
A full day’s play was indulged in at ! the Turanganui Bowling Club’s green , yesterday, when the rinks were fully : occupied. In the afternoon there was a large attendance of members, toi gether .with a great number of lady friends. During the afternoon the j: Handicap Fours were played, the first t round of which was completed, and in | which all the games were runaway ones Hfor the victors. Afternoon tea was | provided by Mrs Hallam, who was asj sisted in the dispensing by Mrs Burnett, the refreshments being much ap--1 preciated. The results of the (match t games were: — —Handicap Fours. — f R. 0. Skeet, W. McPherson, W. Rat- [ cliffe, J. P. Williams (skip) (4pts) 29, i beat J. B. Leyden, W. H. Douglas, M. f A. Neill, E. Lewis (skip) (7pts) 19. — |ln the early part of the game the Ljscores were very even, Williams having ! an advantage of one point on the Bth t 'head—B to 7, 13 to 12 on the 11th ‘ “bead, and 18 to 17 on the 16th head HFrom this point Williams’ rink ran : completely away from their opponents, [ and won easily by ten points. H. J. Finn, V. Hooper, B. Hird, A. Sawyer (skip) (4pts) 29, beat D. B. MoSkimming, R. Thelwall, P. E. Hal- [ lam, J. Greig (skip) (scr) 20—The •game was entirely in Sawyer’s rink’s f favor throughout, they being 18 to 9 lion‘the 9th head, and winning easily I by nine points. A. Skillicorn, D. Hepburn, W. Bruce, I R. McWhirter (skip) (7pts) 29, beat Dan Barry, C. F. Lewis, T. McConnell, i M. G. Nasmith, junr. (skip) (Bpts) 12. —This game was even to the 11th head, | when McWhirter led by 10 to 8. From : "this head onwards Nasmith’s rink never : had a chance against their opponents, | who won very easily by 17 points. ' For the semi-final MoWhirter’s rink -meets Sawyer’s, and the winners meet | Williams’ rink in the final. Ordinary play will be indulged in to- | day, while on Monday interest on the i green will be centred in the competij tion for the Junior Pennant, between ! the Gisborne and Turanganui junior - players.

Mackintosh, -secretary of the Gisborne Bowling Club, / received notification from Mr. Pegler, of the Hastings Bowling Club, [I;, that, as several of the players have r withdrawn, the teams entered by the >. Hatter for the tournament for the Bur- ‘ “ton trophy cannot come to Gisborne. A meeting of the committee of the Gisborne Bowling Club is to be. held this morning to consider what action shall be taken. -It is understood that the feeling is in favor of the tournament [ taking place on Monday as arranged, 1 though only the local clubs will comg.pete. f * THE JETJNE PENNANT. ! The first competition for the chal- \ lexuge pennant presented by Mr. Jeune, 1 to be contested by B grade players of \ -the Gisborne and Turanganui Bowling -dubs, will take place on the green of [the latter on Monday.
