EASTER SOCIAL
The annual social in connection with tlis Poverty Bay Roving Club was held last night in the Garrison Hall. _ Although the weather was most unfavorable, the attendance was most- satisfac_ torv, over 100 couples being present. Tile floor wa s in capital order, and the hall was tastefully decorated. Excellent music was supplied by Lang’s orchestra, the members of which were seated on a raised dais in the centre of the hall. The dais was draped with bunting, decorated with oars, and surmounted by the handsome flag of theclub. Supper was provided by the ladies’ committee, and was tastefully served on the stage, the tables being prettily arranged. On a table on the stage were the trophies won by the club members in the different competitions during the season. and in addition there were displayed a handsome barometer -presented to the club by Mr. D. E. Dustin, of Wan. ganui, and an enlarged photograph of .the Wanganui senior crew (Australasian champions), presented t-o the club by Mr. R. Houlden. Judge Jones present, ed the trophies to the successful competitors, adding a word of kindly encouragement and congratulation in each, ease, and calling for three cheers for the winners and the donors of the prizes. At the conclusion of the presentations, three hearty cheers were given for Judge Jones. During the evening a presentation of a silver tea-kettle and spirit- stand was made to Mr. A. Kirk, the popular secretary of the club, on behalf of the members, as a small token of their appreciation of bis efforts, especially in connection with the erection of the new club-house. Mr. Kirk, who was completely taken by surprise, responded suitably. Dancing was 'kept up until an early hour this morning, the following gentlemen officiating at M.G.’s: Messrs JStewart, W. Webb, A. Sawyer, E.. Roche, and F. Lowndes. The following i s a list of the different events contested during the year and the winners. In addition, the club, presented representative caps to T. McConnell, T. Parker, E. Whitfield, and M. Sseats, a ten-stone crew which successfully represented the club at the recent regatt-t at Wairoa :• — First Trial lours, photos presented bv Mr B. S. Cox.—A. Kirk (str). J. Weston (3), J. Lloyd (2), G. Kart on (bow), J. Fox (cox). Robertson’s Fours, hats presented by Mr. R. Robertson.—M. McLeod (str),. H. Williams (3), B. McLeod (2), V. L. First Double Sculls, gold medals presented by Mr. H. J. Grieve. —C. Winter (str), W" Neill (bow), V. Lang (cox) Second Double Sculls, gold medals . presented' by Mr. R. W ilkinson.—T. McConnell (str), L. Clark (bow), \ • | Lang (sox) President’s Fours, cup presented by Mr. E. P. Jovee, and medals. —M. McLocd (str), W. Hall (3), E Whitfieild (2), 0. Hansen (bow), R. Thomson (cox)’.
