SWIMMING.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL. The light rain and threatening appearance of the weather early yesterday afternoon precluded any possibility of a large attendance at the Swimming Carnival in the School Baths. When the time for commencing arrived rain was falling, and there was only a very small attendance, but tlie committee decided to go on with the programme. The events were entirely robbed of interest by the absence of most of the principal entrants, and at about 3 p.m., when rain commenced to fall heavily, it was decided to abandon the carnival. The following are the results of the events which were got off: 2oyds Handicap (Boys under 12). — R. Keiha (2sec), 1; D. Lawless (scr.), S. Seven started. 50yds Maiden (open).—G. Cameron, 1; H. Grange, 2. Three starters. Schoolboys’ Relay Race, 50yds.— Lawless, Dawson, Nicolas, O’Neill, 1. Two teams started. 100yds Championship.—First heat: McLean, 1; W. Carroll, 2. Second heat: A. Beere, 1; Knowles and Mudge also started, but did not complete the course. Final heat: McLean, 1; W. Carroll, 2; A. Beere, 3. Long Dive.—Ahuriri (56ft), 1; A. Ranger- (54ft), 2. Five competitors. Cigarette Race, 25yds.—E. Harrison and H. Grange competed, but neither succeeded in keeping his cigarette alight. The event was declared no race. Schoolboys 7 Tub Race.—Aliuriri, 1; G. Jones, 2. Seven ’'starters. Diving for Plates (12 plates).—Ahuriri (7), 1; Ourrie (5), 2. 25yds Dash Handicap.—First- heat: Cameron. 1: Grange, 2. Second heat: Hunter, 1; Carroll. 2. Final: Hunter, 1; Carroll, 2. Also competed: Cameron and Grange. Neat Dive. —Cameron, 1; Jones, 2. Eight competitors.
