CONTINUOr'S RAIN. Fp till an early hour this morning there was no sign of t he abatement of therein which commenced on Monday afternoon and had been falling with practically no intermission in the interval. The streets were in a deplorably sloppy condition, and in many places large pools of water almost covered the roadway Both the rT '- —ill '"'u W aimata rivers were in a swollen and discolored condition, and quantities of driftwood were coming down each of them last night. Many of the smaller creeks in the country hate risen considerably. and if the rain continues many of the lower lying paddocks will he flooded to-day. The report of the Government meteorologist last night predicted a further fall in the barometer, especially in the north, where an easterly gale, with heavy rein and floods in parts may be expected.
