CATHOLIC ARCHBISHOP’S PATRIOTIC APPEAL, MELBOURNE, March 29, Addressing the Catholic Young Men’s Society, Archbishop Carr appealed to Irishmen and sons of Irishmen to shoulder their responsibilities in the defence of Australia. They should imitate the patriotic action of the Scottish regiment. It was all very well for Australians when no danger apprehended and the power of Britain was unchallenged, hut if the day came when the army (and navy of Britain were challenged, Australia would be seriously menaced. If the young men did not prepare for such an eventuality they were neglecting their duty to their country.
