A letter was received from the East Coast Trades and Labor Council, asking the Union’s financial siipport to a proposed Trades Hall. After discussion it was resolved to apply to the Council for further information on the matter. The Trades’ Council also wrote re the matter of an organiser visiting Gisborne to further the cause of unionism in this district, stating that a levy would be necessary to meet expenses. It was pointed out in the discussion that, though the printing trade was well organised, support should be accorded to other trades, and it was unanimously resolved to give the project the necessary aid. The annual reports of the Auckland Typographical Union, the Wellington Machinists’ Union, and the annual con_ ference of the Trades and Labor Council were received. A copy of the proposed agreement between the Westland Union and their employers was forwarded for approval. The Union unanimously decided to approve of the agreement. Tlie matter of supporting the new Labor paper at Wellington was brought up, but the question was allowed to stand over. It was unanimously decided to alter the place of meeting to the Progressive League’s rooms, and to alter the night of meeting to tlie first Monday in every month at 5 p.m. A clearance card on behalf of a member of the Wellington Union was accepted, and a clearance card was granted to a member leaving for Dunedin. The President of the Union (Mr Eaton) referred to Mr F. Farrell’s appointment to the linotype staff of the “Otago Daily Times”. He regretted Mr Farrell’s departure, for he had been a good member of the Union, but wished him every success in his new position. Other members also eulogised Mr Farrell’s services, and Mr Farrell replied in suitable terms.

Accounts were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
