CONCERT IN MOTU. [From Our Own Correspondent.] Any one familiar with that little township Motu would have had a groat surprise on Saturday evening had he not known that a “grand concert” was to be held that ©veiling in the new hall. A large number of well-dressed people were about the township in order to bo present at the above. A party from Gisborne generously gave their services free for the occasion ? and with the assistance of Miss Wright (Canterbury), and M r Donald Anderson a very highly appreciated musical evening was spent. After the concert an impromptu dance was held and lasted till midnight. The programme was a good one. Tlie serenaders in the chorus “Finiculi Finicula” roused the hearty applause of the audience. Mr A. E. Morris, by his songs “The Yeoman’s Wedding” and “Thora” deserved tlie encores which ho received. Miss Wright sang “A Japanese Love Song” with artistic ease and grace, and also “The Birds go North Again”, which was rendered in a riyle which drew a double encore. Miss T)ussen led the Serenaders in the chorus songs “Grow little Mushroom” and “Moon Dear” with great success. Mr L. Mnnning was at his beet in his songs “Mighty Deep” and “Tis T.”, and the audience applauded and encored him again and again. Mr J. Adair played two ’cello solos admirably. Mr J. Dods played the accompaniments and also rendered “When I Avas a boy at School”, and a whistling solo most successfullv, and was deservedly encored. Miss Uridge plaved a selection on the piano very well. Mr Donald Anderson in his two songs “Youth” and “Perhaps” showed that Motu also has claims to musical accomplishment. The proceeds of the concert are to go to the funds of tlie new hall.
