In connection with the rumored strike of coal miners, it is understood that several bodies, the City Council, Tramway Board, Hospital Board, and the like, have made preparations to provide for a contingency with such as that which would arise in the event of a strike. According to one authority, the trouble in the coal trade, if it arises, will he in connection with the State collieries. There is stock for the _ requirements of the Hurunui-Bluff section, and branches have sufficient coal for five or six months.
