The earnings of the South African railways during the seven months under the Union were a million above the same period of 1909.

Sir Edward G-rev, in a letter to the Anti-Slavery and Aborigines Protection •Society, states that the Wilhelmstal Kaffir" mutiny of October 6th, was due to reduction "of pay, and complaints of bad food. The strike was embittered 1 by an attempt to prevent the strikers obtaining provisions. The Railway Company, without the sanction of the civil authorities, called for troops, and this culminated in an affray. The German Government and the Company were doing their utmost to _ remedv conditions. and a special Magistrate had been appointed to protect, the British amt Natives.
