SYDNEY, Jan. 2. The trade returns are incomplete, but the Comonwealth returns for the first ten months show an increase of £15,195,000. NEW SOUTH WALES INCOME. The revenue for the half-year ended Saturday was £7,615,969, an.increase of £517.319. “A GOOD SPORT.” SYDNEY, Jan. 3. There was a large representative attendance at the late Mr. Clibborn's funeral. The officiating clergyman paid a tribute. Deceased had tried to make sport clean. He was what men called a good sport. TEACHERS’ SALARIES. The minimum salary of all male teachers in State schools has been raised to £llO. AUSTRALIAN SCIENCE CONGRESS. Oved - 700 delegates are expected to attend the Australian Science Congress opening in Sydney next week. The list of papers and nddressess is very long and interesting. STUDENTS’ CHRISTIAN UNION. The biennial convention of the Australian Students’ Christian Union is being held at Blackheath. Mr Smith and Misses Walker and Turnbull were elected New Zealand representatives on the general committee. West AUSTRALIAN FINANCE. PERTH, Jan. 2. The revenue for the half-year shows an increase of £189,574. PLEURO-PNEUMONIA. Mobs of cattle from Queensland have been found to be affected with pleuropneumonia at Wagga. NO DOGS WANTED. A proclamation has been issued prohibiting the importation of dogs to the Commonwealth from anywhere except Britain and New Zealand. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE,- Jan.2. The half-year’s revenue shows an increase of £358.582. PHENOMENAL RAINFALL. BRISBANE, Jan. 2. ' During Saturday night nine inches of rain fell at Redlynch. THE NORTHERN TERRITORY. The Commonwealth took over the administration- of the Northern Territory yesterday. At a representative gathering Mr.* Justice Mitchell read the proclamation of transfer. INCREASE IN SEAMEN’S WAGES. MELBOURNE, Jan. 2. Mr. Northcote, chairman of the Steamship Owners’ Association, states that there will be no immediate increase of freights as far as the results of the new agreement with the Seamen’s Union. No doubt, however, the matter will be considered in due course. The increases agreed upon will mean additional expenditure, amounting to £12,000 annually. Other recent awards agrees ments, including officers, cooks, stewards and engineers, mean a total increase of £35,600. VICTORIAN REVENUE.
The half-year’s revenue returns show an increase of £849,549.

A supposed man committed to the Beechworth gaol has been, discovered to be a woman. For a year she has dressed in male clothing, and earned a living as a horse trainer, occasionally riding horses at races. She went under the name of Jockey Jade. A TRIP FOR FARMERS. Referring to the offer of .a Sydney company to. provide a fifteen-knot mail service to Vancouver, Mr Hughes states that he does not/ know of any ships building. If no ships arc yet on the slip, the company would require special arrangements until ready with the steamers.
