THE NEXT ELECTIONS.
PROBABLE AND POSSIBLE CANDIDATES IN THE AUCKLAND DISTRICT. [.Special to times.] AUCKLAND, Jan. 4. The Parliamentary elections will take place before the end of the present year, and it is likely that the date for the actual contest will be fixed for early m November. Already quite a number of possible and probable candidates are announced. Under the reconstruction it is likely that the South Lsland will lose at least two or three seats to the North Island, and that the Auckland province will probably gain a couple of new constituencies. In both town and country districts there is likely to be keen interest in the next political campaign, and already the opposing parties are beginning to rally their forces. IN THE CITY AND SUBURBS. In the citv a good manv candidates are likely to be forthcoming. For Auckland Central the sitting mmeber. Mr. A. E. Glover, will be opposed by Mr. P. J. Neherney, president of the Liberal and Labor Federation. It is unlikely that the Reform party will offer any opposition to Mr. Glover, but both the Labor and Socialist parties intend having candidates in the field. Mr. C. H. Poole. M.P. for Citv W'est, is to be opposed by a selected candidate of the Reform party. Messrs. TV. J- Ralph, J. J. O’Brien, and C. J. Parr are spoken of as possible aspirants for the- seat. Mr. G. J. Garland will, in all probability, be a candidate for a city cr suburban seat in the Opposition interest, and may be prevailed upon to carry the party's colors in the Auckland East electorate against.the sitting member, air. A. M. hi vers. Parnell is likely to be the scene of a good fight, and possible candidates for this seat- against the present member (Mr. F. La wry) are Messrs. J. S. Dickson and Charles Bagiev. The Hon. E. Mitehelson will, it is understood, be asked to stand for Parnell as the Opposition candidate. For Mar.u'kau it is reported that the present representative, .Mr. F. W\ Lang, will he opposed by Mr. Alfred Kidd, late member for City Central .
THE COUNTRY ELECTORATES. In the AVaikat-o Air. H. J. Greer, slade will be opposed by Colonel Allen Bel!, who put up a good fight against the sitting member last election. On this occasion Colonel Bell will stand as an Independent, and the Opposition will probably run Air. R. Bollard, of Taupiri (a son of Air. John Bollard. ALP.), as its candidate. Te Kuiti is likely to be taken out of the Ta unit ran ui electorate and made the centre of a new electorate. The Alaycr of Te Kuiti, Air. John Boddie, will be the Opposition candidate if a new constituency is formed under the scheme of alteration of boundaries. It is possible that the Hen. T. Alaekenzie, Almister of Agriculture (whose seat in the South Island is almost sure to be wiped out) may' stand as the Government candidate for Te Kuiti. In the Thames electorate it is reported that Air. E. H. Taylor, ALP., may l>e opposed by another reverend gentleman, Pastor Clarke, who lias taken up his residence in the district, and may be persuaded upon to come forth in the Opposition interests. Both the Labor party and the Socialist party expect to put up candidates in the respective city' and suburban electorates.
