The Soutli Waimakarin River Board has virtually agreed to the transfer of a 4000-icre* reserve near Christchurch to the Government for the South Island training camp, taking in exchange extensive runs in the back country. The quarterly returns of the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court show that in the period ended 31st December 094 males and 112 females were arrested; lIS males and 11 females Avere discharged for want of evidence, 23 cases were dismissed ; 20 prisoners were committed for trial, and 830 males females were summarily convicted. The lines imposed totalled £7083 os, and tlie fees totalled £95. , A DEFAULTING FIREMAN. PUNISHED. Another defaulting fireman was before the Court at Lyttelton, to-day. and was sentenced, to a Aveek s imprisonment.
