A MYSTERY SOLVED.
THE “TARTANTOOLA TIGER” EXPLAINED.
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY. Jan. 6.
The Mystery of the one-time famous Tartantoola tiger has been explained. A party of shooters discovered a sheep stealers’ camp hidden in dense scrub. There are indications that operations on a very large scale had been carried on for years. Numbers of recentlykilled animals were found, and the bones of hundreds of others. There were several hundred live sheep in the vicinity. The greatest care had been taken to hide the place, which was surrounded by high palisades of ti-tree. A well-known resident of the district has been arrested.
[Several years ago a scare was created in the district .by the mysterious disappearance of sheep, which vanished without a trace of their whereabouts being afterwards discovered. A report was circulated that they were carried off by a mysterious beast of prey, which became known as the Tartantoola tiger.]
