VIVISECTION OF CRIMINALS.
AMERICAN SURGEON’S IDEA
Dr. Benjamin Merrill Ricketts is reported by the “New \ork Tribune” as favoring vivisection of criminals under certain'"conditions, declaring that vivisection in both man and animals was essential for a more rapid progress m the science of medicine nnd suigeiy. Dr Ricketts, who is a noted surgeon, said it would be all right to conduct the experiments on criminals who gave their consent. He further believes that offenders who offer their living bodies as a possible sacrifice for future generations should he rewarded with their liberty. , “That more perfect -knowledge may be had, criminals should be given the opportunity to submit themselves to the hands of ‘ the. experimenters, even though their lives may be jeopardised, savs Dr. Ricketts.
