THE AOTEA ON THE ROCKS NEAR CAPETOWN. SMALL HOPE OF SAVING THE VESSEL. ALL HANDS SAFE. s . [United press association -copyright.} (Received Jan. 23, 12.25 a.m.) CAPETOWN, Jan. 22. The steamer Aotea is ashore at Moville Point, close to the spot where the Maori was wrecked. She lies broadside on to the beach, with a list to seaward, and with water in all the holds. She is humping badly on the rocks, where she is wedged. There is little hope of saving the . vessel, but good prospects of salving the cargo if the weather is favorable. All hands are safe. Steam lighters have been despatched to salve the cargo. [The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co.’s s.s. Aotea is a vessel of 5600 tons, commanded by Captain Prosser. She left London for Auckland and other I\ew Zealand ports on December 28th.]
