THE TROTTING CLUB FIASCO.
POLICE COURT PROCEEDINGS
[Per Press association.] AUCKLAND, Jan. 27
Five men appeared at the Police Court this morning, charged that they, with certain other persons, with intent to prevent th::-running of the Auckland Trotting Club’s races at AlexandraPark, assembled in such a manner and so conducted themselves as to cause persons in the neighborhood to fear that thev would disturb the peace, and simultaneously, without reason or occasion, . provoked other pei sons to disturb the peace tenmestuously. The Magistrate. as the request of defendants’ solicitor. decided -to - reduce the charge to one of committing a breach of the peace, and defendants pleaded guilty. The Magistrate said the offence could not he looked at in a mild manner. Accused had given considerable trouble, and their action might have led to bloodshed. He fined each £5 and costs.
