BOWLING.

GISBORNE CLUB. The Gisborne Bowling Club’s green was the rendezvous of a considerable number of howlers on Saturday afternoon. and play was kept going briskly till dusk. A match in the Handicap Pairs was got off. as well as a number of ordinary games. The results of the principal ones were as follows: — —Handicap Pairs.— Maher and Paltridgc (skip) (8 points) 29 beat O’Meara and Coleman (skip) (3 points) 22. The losers in this match scored on twelve out of the 21 heads, but the winners got in two big scores, a five in the fourth head and 1 four on the twentieth. —Ordinary Games.— Johnston, Harris, Kyme (skip) 23 beat Fieldhouse, Boulton, McMillan (skip) 20. Ambridge, Allan, Crompton (skip) 23 beat Seymour, Roberts, Cobb (skill) 16. W. Pettie and Bright- (skip) 21 beat. Hooker and Benzie (skip) 20. This was a keenly contested and exceedingly interesting game. The scores were level 20 all on the twenty-first head, and Bright won by getting in a single on the additional head. TURANGANUI CLUB. There was a good attendance of bowleis on the green of the Turanganui Club on Saturday afternoon, when, several enjoyable games were played. One match game was played, the result being: — —Bennett Cup.—-

S. AYootton 20 beat R. Thclwall 17. At the commencement of the game boners went to AYootton. who was 9 to his opponent’s nil on the stli head. Tlielwal.l on the next head broke his “duck,” hut AVootton had the commanding lead of ten points on the 11th head, being 15 to 5. On the next five heads Thelwall made a good recovery, putting up seven points while his opponent failed to score, and the 16th head showed a difference in the score of only three points, 15 to 12 in AYootton’s favor. ' On several heads following AVootton again got a good lead, but Thelwall reduced his disadvantage on the last couple of heads and suffered defeat by three points. .. & The following isi the position of the various, players in the competition at the conclusion of the seventh - week’s play:—•
