THE COATING AIEETING

(By “Argus.”)

The racehorses Goldfindcr, Dazzling, Rauparaha, T’e Arai, Lord. Possible, Cork AVhakaweira, Ataetgang, Berengaria. Kilsyth, and Eiya, each of whom claims engagements at the coming local meetings, arrived from south by the s.s. Monowai on Saturday morning. It is rumored that Goldfindcr has gone a hit stale, and that he may not start at the Park this week.

The track at the Park is in excellent condition, but would be much improved i>v rain. All the arrangements are complete, and, given fine weather, the meeting promises to he a successful one.

There are six acceptors for the opening event, the hurdle race, but probably no more than four of these will go to cn.e post. Te Arai, the hero of the Grand National Steeplechase, is at the head of the list with 12st 51bs, exactly tlie same impost which he had when he led the field home in the hurdle race on the second day. of the steeplechase meeting. Swarthmoor has been allotted lOst 31b, and is said to be going very well. Continuance is not overweighted with list 12ib while. Whakaweira and Eiya must each have a chance. The Fly in o- Handicap has attracted five to remain in after final payments. Auldearn won this race in lmiii 14 4-5 sec last year, and this year he is asked to carry 21bs more, Bst 61b. Everything being well with the bay son of San Remo, he must run a great, race, but will have to travel to' beat some of those below him in the weights. Tile big event promises to furnish an exciting contest. Six horses are left m, as against three starters last year, when larnui won from Dardanus and Ballyheigh in 2min lOsec. . Paisano holds pride of place with 9st, 21b, and the others are llauparaha (9.1), Goldfinder (8.13), Dazzling (8.10), Lamsdorff (7.11) and Voetgang (7.8). The race is a very open one and will be sure, to cause a deal of speculation. The top-weight can be relied upon to run a good, honest race, while Rauparaha, Voetgang and Dazzling each have attractive performances recently to their credit. If Goldfinder were on top of bis form he must have a big chance, but ’at present it is a diffieul t matter to sort them out For the Park Stakes there are also six acceptors, Sublime being top-weight with 9.0. The daughter of Wonderland —Heave nl- Twin has not done much racing of late, and may not be at her best, although she has done one or two, attractive track gallops. The others remaining in are Dazzling B.i, Auldearn 7.12, Iney 7.10. Illustrious 7.4,' Rose Lethe 7.0 - . The event is not a “moral” for any of the acceptors, and as m the other events Mr. Chadwick’s attempt to conceal the .probable winner has been successful: A few of tile remaining outside horses to compete at the meeting may probably arrive by Wednesday morning’s .boat; m the meantime the local trainers will he hard at work putting the finishing touches on their charges.
