'Replying to the representations oi tlie Canterbury Automobile Association re-carding the 'necessity for electric signal’s at level railway crossings and the cutting of trees obstructing the view of crossings, Mr. T. Ronavnc, generalmanager of the railways, stated that to establish electric signals at the large number of level crossings in the Dominion would involve a, very considerable expenditure, which could not he undertaken 'Hie Department had already none to much expense in getting trees nit down, hut ui some eases difficulty was being experienced owing to the exorbitant demands of adjoining landowners.
