P.B. SHEEP DOG TRIAL CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING

fhe sixteenth annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Slieeja .Dog Trial Club was held on Wednesday evening at the Ormond' Hotel. The president of tho Club. Mr A. Caesar, presided. The secretary, Mr R. Thelwall, presented the annual report, which congratulated members upon the steady advance made by the club and the increasing interest manifested in its welfare. Last year’s trials were unfortunately considerably interfered with by the flood. The consequent postponement of the gathering had caused considerable financial loss to the club, as a number of competitors could not obtain extended leave, and were reluctantly compelled to return home. In foregoing these nominations, some £9 was lost. The c.ub also lost tho services of Mr W. O. Rutnerford, of Canterbury, one of tho most capable judges' in the Dominion, owing to the alteration in dates. The trials, wore a-pronounced success. The entries wore again large, and tne work done in all classes was of a high standard. The club was more than justifying its existence by the improvemojit shown each year in the work. The balance-sheet showed a loss of £7 5s Gd. Receipts for the year totalled rCIIS 19s Gd. A large increase in the amount of stakes hist trials also depleted finances. Of the £l2B 5s expended, £52 14s was Paul away in cash prizes. The committee had every confidence that the deficit on last year’s trials would be more than made up this year. The thanks of the club wore due to Mr J. Russell, who, on short notice, undertook and carried out the duties l of judge in a manner which gave the utmost satisfaction. Thanks were also due to Mrs Bruce and Messrs Neenan and 1 Jeffrey for the use of grounds. _ The president, Mr. J. A. Caesar, as in previous years, materially assisted to make tho trials successful. Owing to the property being cut up, a now site was required this year. Prospects were bright for the incoming year. One patron had offered a five-guinea cup fo r competition. Thanks were expressed fo the outgoing officers and to Mrs Herbert, Misses McKenzie, Proudfoot Neenan, Alexander. Devery and Benson, and Mi's T-Towie for assistance in connection with tile afternoon tea. i
