At tlie Congregational Union it was resolved to strongly urge upon churches the absolute, necessity for the men of the churches taking a larger interest in denominational affairs, and that there he sent to annual meetings of the Council a larger proportion of male representation. The London Missionary Society's report showed 1 that the' amounts contributed during.the year were: Auckland £202. Wellington £284, Canterbury £IOS 10s 3d. Otago £348 9s lOd; total. £943 Os 3d. The report urged the appointment of a Xcw Zealand committee for the examination of candidates. The report was adopted, and the Tlev. Mr. Hunt was appointed the Union’s representative on the Society. The Rev. W. Saunders moved that the Council take into serious consideration the question of limiting the number of paid delegates to each Council, or that a Council meeting be held every second year. Mr. Saunders pointed out that the expenses of the Council were out of all proportion to the revenue. He believed it possible that £SO a year might be saved. A report was read, which stated that the expense of Council meetings amounted to £IOO. about oneseventh of the revenue. It. was moved that only half fare be paid to delegates. The discussion was adjourned'.. THE CONFERENCE CONCLUDED. DUNEDIN, Feb. Id. The Conference concluded its sittings this morning. The Rev. R. Mitchell, To Tvuiti, was appointed chairman for the ensuing year after three ballots, the other nominations 1 being Revs. Xffoss (Christchurch), and Hooge'i(Masterton). N£xt year’s conference takes place at Palmerston North.
