BRASS BAUDS ASSOCIATION.

CONTEST AT PALMERSTON. { , THE CHAMPIONSHIP QUESTION. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! , . PALMERSTON N., Feb. 17. There was another fine day for the band contest. The question of what constitutes the championship has again been keenly ' discussed. Originally the officials declared that nothing in * tli© quickstep competition counted. That -, left "Wellington 20 points ahead on the first test, bu"t in the discussion at the Association’s meeting it was held by a majority that five of the music points in the quickstep should be added to- the two test selections. That left- Wellington ...'ifccn points'ahead of Wanganui, but last night the officials concluded that- the championship went until the Besson challenge sliie’ld—full musicpoints and the points of the two tests. That made Wanganui 24 points ahead of Wellington on the first test .and the music points of the quickstep to-day. Mr. Wade, conductor of the Wanganui Band, considered that it would not be right to count in the quickstep music points, and that the championship should rest on the two tests alone. There was an excellent attendance at the final tost to-night, and keen interest was shown in the .battle of the leading bands. B grade bands finished about 9.30. A grade bands are not likely to finish till late, and Mr. Short, the King’s Trumpeter, is to play after that. RESULTS OF TEST COMPETITIONS. GISBORNE SECOND IN B GRADE.
